We also went on beautiful walks along the Zwalm and to the mills. We'll be back!” (February 2025)

Welcome to “Sualma”, an enchanting holiday home situated along a centuries-old sunken road. The house has a beautiful view of the Zwalm valley with forest and meadows as its closest neighbours. This heritage building has been lovingly restored, regaining its soul, “su alma”. In the autumn of 2024, Sualma opened its doors as a stylish, ecological and inclusive holiday home, with the same unobstructed view over the Zwalm valley as before.

*The Zwalm is a small tributary of the Scheldt and was first described in 1040 as the “fluviolum Swalma”. This is Middle Dutch for a steaming and turbulent river, “une eau qui gonfle et qui tourbillonne”.

The holiday house

The holiday house was renovated and furnished with a great passion for people, nature and heritage.

Sualma was originally built in 1769 as the farmhouse of a closed farm and was carefully renovated from 2022-2024 with ecological materials. Architectural accents brought light and space into the house. In addition, we made sure that the ground floor was accessible to everyone (buggies, wheelchairs, walkers, etc.).

The house has 4 bathrooms. In the mirrored bathroom it seems like you are bathing in the forest.

The house was timelessly furnished for guests looking for a comfortable and relaxing place to stay with friends or family. From the open kitchen and living room you can look out over the landscape for miles. The living room invites you to relax by the fireplace.

A large double opening window opens onto the private garden with large terrace and view of the adjacent forest. In the wood-fired barrel sauna you look out onto the forest. In addition to the sauna you can shower outside in every season (hot and cold water).

Zwalm, in the heart of the Flemish Ardennes of Belgium

Sualma overlooks a meadow, the Gaverbos and the Zwalm valley. Those looking for silence can find it here, except for the sound of birds and a tractor. The house and garden are so inviting that you don't have to go anywhere!
For those who can't sit still: the centuries-old sunken road Hembeke is on various walking and cycling routes that take you through the Flemish Ardennes.

Sualma is located in Paulatem, 1 of the 12 Zwalm villages, a stone's throw from Zottegem, Oudenaarde or Brakel. Bruges, Ghent and Brussels are also easily accessible by train or by car.
